LoRa (from Long Range - long distance), owned by the California-based company Semtech, is a radio frequency carrier signal based on the PHY level of the telecommunication device. So, using a LoRa modem, you can convert your data into this signal.
LoRaWAN associates the signal with the application. Based on the data transmission level of a telecommunications device, LoRaWAN is a technology that connects the LoRa signal to the application.
By controlling both the protocol and the architecture, it helps to determine the battery life of the nodes, the quality of service , data security, network bandwidth, and the types and variety of applications used.
Specialists of our company on the basis of the carried-out analytical calculations which were confirmed by results of measurements at our facilities and facilities of our customers, concluded that if the gateways were installed on the roofs of 9 or 16-storey buildings, the communication range was approximately 1-2 km in urban areas. In some cases, the communication range reached 2.7 km.On average, we can say that if the gatewayswill be placed on the roofs of 9 or 16-storey buildings with a radius of 1-1.5 km, then with 90% probability the whole area will be covered in terms of urban development.
Communication range from basements is about 500 meters and in each case depends on the real conditions.
If the gateway and sensors operate on the LoRaWAN protocol and are tuned to the same frequency range (868 MHz for EU and Ukraine), they are compatible and can work in one network.
